Buenos Aires, March 31 (NA) – The Appeals Court revoked the pretrial detention for suspended prosecutor Leandro Benegas, who is accused of sexual abuse. Although this is good news for the official, various non-custodial measures have been imposed on him. The ruling was issued after the defense of the accused filed an appeal against the hearing where his detention and pretrial detention were announced. However, Judge Fernando Gentile Barsano declared the partial invalidity of said hearing, therefore revoking the preventive measure and ordering alternative measures. These include setting a residence, leaving the country, and not having contact with witnesses in the case, according to the media La Capital. In mid-March, Benegas was detained as part of the case in which he is accused of sexual abuse with penetration and promoting the corruption of a minor, the daughter of a subordinate, reported the Argentine News Agency. According to the accusation, the events would have occurred between 2008 and 2009, when Benegas was serving as the direct supervisor of the victim's father. Benegas's defense maintains that the cases against his client have already prescribed, so the investigation should not continue.
